New Orleans welcomes Rosh Ha’ayin’s P2K Committee

After a flurry of meetings in Birmingham, members of our Israeli sister city, Rosh Ha’ayin’s, Partnership 2000 committee traveled to New Orleans to take in the city, its culture and the warm hospitality of our local Jewish community.

On Thursday, June 5, a reception welcoming the committee from Rosh Ha’ayin was held at the Uptown JCC. New Orleans P2K co-chairs Ann Kimball and Richard Cahn, along with Jewish Federation president Michael Wasserman, MD, welcomed the Rosh Ha’ayin delegation.  Led by Lt. Col. Danny Shani, the Rosh Ha’ayin P2K committee was effusive about how much they were enjoying their trip to both Birmingham in New Orleans.

While in town, the Rosh Ha’ayin and New Orleans P2K committees are meeting to further deepen the three-way partnership between Birmingham, New Orleans and Rosh Ha’ayin.

Some plans include:

-         The annual Maccabi Games

-         A professionals’ exchange.

-         A scholarship program in Rosh Ha’ayin

-         A photography program to enable students in the three communities to explore their past, their community and their ethnic history

Lt. Col. Shani, a veteran of the 1st Lebanon War who later served in the Prime Minister’s Security Office, will speak tonight at Gates of Prayer at 8:00 p.m. at 4000 West Esplanade Avenue in Metairie.

Members from the New Orleans P2K committee will spend a full day in Rosh Ha’ayin in November (12-23) as part of the Federation’s annual Mission to Israel.  If you are interested in learning more about the upcoming Mission, please contact Sherri Tarr, the Federation’s Campaign Director, at or at 504-780-5609.
