Sderot summer camp dispatch: July 9

The Jewish Agency, with funding from the Israel Emergency Fund of the United Jewish Communities, is taking the entire population of 8,000 children ages 6 to 17 who live in the Sderot area out of the range of attack and letting kids do what they like best. From amusement parks to nature reserves, from water parks to concerts, and from touring the country to enjoying recreation with friends, kids from Sderot are having a great summer. (More about the program's funding.)

But why not hear it from them? Come back to this blog frequently to check out blog entries from different camps thoughout the summer.

There was a lot of activity at the Sderot summer camps. At the "Kiufit" camp, children built and flew kites, while at "Afikef,” the girls had fun at the swimming pool while the boys were at workshops.

One group was at a Talmud Torah session and two groups were at a junior technology workshop where they learned about electric circuits and assembled a pocket flashlight

Sdot Negev Camps

Children of the Gaza perimeter region, including children from the moshavim of the Sdot Negev Regional Council that are on the confrontation line, participate in a day camp initiated by the Jewish Agency. The camp is located at the local school compound. The children took part in creativity workshops. One group built lampshades, a second group worked on carpentry, while a third group participated in a magic workshop complete with ropes and animals.
